Roy Ready

Ready is a postdoctoral researcher working with Dr. Andrew Jayich on trapped ions. He is passionate about tests of fundamental symmetries and precision laser spectroscopy. When he’s not in the lab having fun, he enjoys playing guitar and watching horror movies.

He completed his graduate studies at Michigan State University with Dr. Jaideep Singh. He worked on a tabletop experiment (Ra EDM) that traps pear-shaped radium nuclei in order to measure an intrinsic, symmetry-violating property of atoms. This property is known as the permanent atomic electric dipole moment (EDM). He is currently performing his postdoctoral work with Dr. Andrew Jayich at UCSB. He works on several projects, including studies of scalable ion traps at cryogenic temperatures and atomic oven development. He is developing a molecular ion EDM experiment that will, among other things, explore the matter-antimatter imbalance in the universe.
