Vojtech Vlcek

He earned his Ph.D. in 2016 through a joint program between The Hebrew University of Jerusalem (Israel) and the University of Bayreuth (Germany), conducting research in both the chemistry and physics departments. His doctoral work was supported by a Minerva Fellowship from the Max Planck Society. From 2016 to 2018, he held a postdoctoral position in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at UCLA. He joined the faculty at UC Santa Barbara in 2018.

The Vlcek Research Group is dedicated to developing new theoretical methods for studying electronic structure and dynamics. Their approach integrates density functional theory, quantum field theory, and quantum statistical mechanics with innovative stochastic techniques to investigate large systems where complex chemistry and physics take place. The group's research focuses particularly on electronic excitations in chemically heterogeneous and nanoscale systems.
